Frequently Asked Questions
What to expect during your initial consultation with Osteopathy?
The first appointment is expected to last about 50 minutes including treatment. Follow up appointments including treatments are 30 minutes long. During your initial consultation the Osteopath will take a full case history and ask questions regarding your symptoms, family history, medical conditions, any ongoing treatments, medication, and lifestyle. They will then proceed to do an objective assessment to look at the body as whole, to identify tension and imbalances that may be affecting areas that are asymptomatic. Palpation with gentle pressure may be applied as this can tell the Osteopath a great deal about the health of the tissues. Likewise, you will be asked to perform various active movements to determine general musculo-skeletal function.
What to expect during your initial consultation with sports massage and acupuncture?
With sports massage, depending on what treatment you have chosen, there will be a quick chat about your symptoms, areas of discomfort, medical history, and any contraindications to massage. Followed by palpation to identity areas of tension. Acupuncture consultations will be similar to sports massage sessions but, appointments have a shorter duration between 15-30 minutes.
What to wear for osteopathy, sports massage, and acupuncture sessions?
You can wear whatever you are comfortable with. Some patients are happy to dress down to their underwear. Others wear loose comfortable clothing such as sports attire, or yoga outfits.
